Giant Pumpkin Competition - 10 year wait pays off for 2004 winner!

10 years of effort has at last paid off for the 2004 Giant Pumpkin Competition winner.

Every year on the first Saturday in April competitors from far and wide head to Dwellingup in the Shire of Murray (Western Australia).

They are heading to the official weigh in for the Giant Pumpkin Competition.

Entrants regularly come from Albany, Margaret River, Bunbury and many areas of Perth. The locals in Dwellingup provide stiff competition and the weigh-off is eagerly awaited by all.

Prizes are awarded in over 20 categories of weird and wonderful fruit, vegetables and flowers.

Custom Composts is the major sponsor of this community event.

The winner in 2004 was Bunbury Regional Prison. Trevor Bamess accepted the $500 cheque on behalf of the prison. Trevor said that he had entered for 9 out of the last 10 years and this was the first time he had won.

2004 was a difficult season with many of our previous champions losing their pumpkins. Trevor nearly didn't enter because he wasn't happy with his pumpkin! He's certainly glad he made the trip now.
